Vitamin C is a water-soluble nutrient found in many fruits and vegetables such as oranges, strawberries, bell peppers, and broccoli. It acts as an antioxidant, which means it helps neutralize unstable molecules that can damage cells. The vitamin is essential for making collagen, a protein that keeps skin, blood vessels, bones, and other tissues strong and flexible. It also helps the body absorb iron from plant-based foods and supports normal immune function. Because the body does not store vitamin C in large amounts, you need a steady supply from food or supplements each day.
