Cardiometabolic health

Cardiometabolic health refers to the way your heart and metabolism work together to keep you healthy. It includes factors such as blood pressure, blood cholesterol levels, blood sugar control, body weight (especially belly fat), and how well your blood vessels function. When these measures are in healthy ranges, your risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes is much lower. Poor cardiometabolic health—high blood pressure, high blood sugar, unhealthy cholesterol, and excess abdominal fat—raises the chance of serious illness and reduces quality of life. Lifestyle habits like a balanced diet, regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, not smoking, and managing stress all have big effects on these measures. Doctors also use medications when lifestyle changes alone are not enough to bring numbers into safe ranges. Monitoring common markers such as fasting glucose, HbA1c, LDL and HDL cholesterol, and blood pressure helps track progress and guide treatment. Ultimately, cardiometabolic health matters because it is a major determinant of long-term health, longevity, and daily well-being. Small, consistent changes in diet and activity can often improve these measures and reduce the need for stronger medical treatments later on.
