AMPK

AMPK stands for AMP-activated protein kinase, a central enzyme that senses a cell’s energy status and helps restore balance when energy is low. When levels of AMP or ADP rise relative to ATP, AMPK switches on processes that generate ATP, such as glucose uptake and fat breakdown, and switches off energy-consuming activities like making fat or building large molecules. AMPK is linked to health and longevity because it encourages maintenance and reduces chronic damage in tissues.
